IC Chatbox?

I'm just seeking feedback about the idea before putting it forward.

I get the general impression that there is a decent amount of people here, but the amount of those actually RPing in threads is rather low in comparison. So, perhaps having a chatbox specifically for playing as characters, it could potentially re-ignite the enthusiasm that has been dwindling down lately.

As I said, open to feedback and such. Embedding code is simple enough, and the one I have in mind is very nice and not eyesoreish. Just a random thought that's been sitting there for a while now.

That would be confusing. There would either be a grand chat RP or it would be confusing.

There can only be one chatbox.

Ooooh that's a decent idea. Of course it could work the other way, too, it could get people to disregard RPs for the chatbox. xP But I like the concept.

Honestly, I'm still trying to see the difference between RPing in a chat and a thread. You type both of them out, and one of them you at least have a lasting archive. I don't see why people want to keep playing in the chat.

The appeal lies in that it is much more fast-paced than a thread. Like, you can type out a few lines real quick, then basically get an instant response. Whereas in a thread, you might be pressured to type more and then most of the time people won't see it until later, unless they're refreshing the page often xP

As dickish as it sounds, I vote to remove the chatbox.

We can always heckle and push to get people to post, but there is no substitute for a quick message system. No one RPs in it anymore, anyway. It is a useful tool for discussing an RP out of context and getting quick feedback, though admittedly it is more often a place for idle chitchat. But that's something people do need sometimes, a place to go and just hang out. xP

True. But there is a strange inactivity around here.

Yeah. I think the fix would be to just get more people to make RPs. That way, there would theoretically be a wider pool of genres to choose from. Of course there is very little that can combat the simple lack of motivation, which is what stalls most RPs. >3<

What if we just got rid of the chatbox for like one or two days and see how it turned out.

That's an idea. I'd probably be bored out of my mind, but it's worth a shot if enough people think it'll affect the amount of posts.

I've noticed that each person tends to focus on one type of RP.

Once again, people have rather limited interests, comes with a small forum.

I would vote for a separate chat for RPing only so people don't act like the one we have now is their personal chum pesterer.

Though I guess we could also just remove the chatbox.

Um, I'm not very sure about how Forumotion forums work, but is it even possible to embed two chatboxes?

It's not.

I tried it on a random forum I created for private RPing, and more or less muck around with. Embedding a xat box was easy enough, of course the alternative is to just make a link.

Either way I think we've settled the issue in the actual chatbox ironically.
