Okay, so we've all played the Elder Scrolls. We've seen how swordfighting generally works in games. Click button, swing sword. You get a more or less random animation of a guy swinging a sword (often badly), and whatever's in front of you takes damage. This approach works for guns; you pull the trigger, and wherever your gun is pointing, there a bullet goes. With swords, the complex art of sword fighting gets condensed to this:

Player walks up to target while holding the block button and waits.
NPC takes a swing and hits the block.
Player swings once or twice and reassumes the block.

Personally, I find TES games rather dull unless I'm using archery, which has some measure of subtlety to it. the CLANG project intends to change that by creating a motion-controlled setup for sword combat. The initial project will be an arena dueling game using Fiore's Italian longsword system, and it will lay the groundwork for other games of its kind by creating a toolkit for including other martial art systems (such as Kendo, German longsword, etc.).

So, they're looking to raise $500,000 via kickstarter. They have just under three days left, and there's just over $50,000 left to go. If they don't make it, they get NO MONEY WHATSOEVER and we don't get the game that all preceding sword-using games wanted to be but weren't. As someone with a bit more than a passing interest in Western swordsmanship, I desperately want to see this project succeed, and I have pledged as much as I can afford to. Please, if you're interested, click on the link at the top of the post and consider pledging. If you put in $25, you get a copy of the game when it comes out early next year.

Yes, i realize this is blatant advertising, but this is the only time I've even considered doing it. If someone takes issue with this, let me know.

They're at the kickstarter, and I think they'd mostly appreciate the money, because if they don't make their goal, it will never happen.

It goes through Amazon payments, so I believe so. Just be aware, this will involve a motion controller down the line, and they're $100 right now; personally, I'm figuring I can save up the money by then, but if that is too much for you, then be forewarned.

So sorta like the Motion+ features of Red Steel 2?

The strength of your swing has a direct correlation into the game, which was by far a really great feature. Just curious about this, wish I had 10k for that exclusive sword...

Will there be realistic injuries (cuts, severed tendons/muscles, etc.)?

Similar, but more focused on the martial arts aspect and with less lag.

I don't know; most of the time, sword duels end up in one decisive blow that takes out your opponent's chest or face, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but Neal has made several references in the videos to taking out people's hands, so I would assume there will be at least some attempt to model that.

Ah. Because, slashing the forearm usually cuts some valuable areas.
