PostSubject: Journey into Youtube   Mon 23 Jul 2012, 10:55 pm

I have never been a fan of facebook, and I don't have one. I used to have Myspace in highschool, but let that die long ago. I looked at twitter and said "this shit is stupid."

BUT

Youtube is so freaking awesome it melts my face!!!!!!

So I looked around a bit on the General Section and didn't see a Youtube type thread, so here it is. Feel free to share some youtube stuff with us. People like different stuff on youtube. We all pretty much like music, but we have a music thread all ready so I will ask that you not post any music here, but instead refer to that topic. I really don't give a shit about what you post, I'm not exactly the sensitive type lol, so I guess the only rules are don't offend Eo or Patches.

So feel free to post the stupid random youtube clips that almost all you like, my friends like, and i hate. I personally enjoy documentaries and movies so you will catch all that from me, and I am really hoping that you guys might find be some documentary i never heard about that will make me shit my pants out of happiness.

I open us up with an epic classic 80s movie pirated by what appears to be some guy from Romania. I suggest you all watch it immediately since this movie will probably get taken down once the company sees it up there.

It is a classic high fantasy film called Conan the Destroyer. Basically you got 80s effects, epic music, high fantasy badassness, Arnold f'n Schwazenegger as Conan leading a classic fantasy party of a spear wielding ex-slave, a princess, a wizard, and a theif as an evil queen tries to recover a relic to ressurect her evil god Dagoth. This is also the sequel to Conan the Barbarian if you are familiar with that story. You don't really need to watch Conan the Barbarian first because the only character retained from the original is Conan. I would suggest watching the original Conan the Barbarian (1982 version) it is pretty epic as well, but I can't find it on youtube. It is definantly worth the watch. Conan the Destroyer doesn't ruin any of the first movie, so you are safe to watch it.

You just discovered YouTube?

Anyways, this thread won't be complete without the daring duo of Slowbeef and Diabetus that is Retsupurea.

And a lovely classic or two:

From what I understand a small group of you like anime. (Is the obvious understatement funny?)

Lol, well I neverb een too big into anime, though I did like DBZ. There is another very short anime I also liked called Cowboy Bebop. I did a little background research on it. Turns out this is in fact The First Anime ever broadcast on Adult Swim. Thus it is that without Cowboy Bebop being so goddamn awesome that probably not a single one of you would have ever seen anime.

So in kudos to Cowboy Bebop, the First Anime on Adultswim, the Anime that gave Americans anime, I give you an All Mighty Spoiler Warning, and show you the end of this epic, but short series.

Come now! See how a true hero goes out!

(Note you can find all the Cowboy Bebop episode on youtube except for the last and 26th episode.)

Cowboy Bebop reruns are responsible for a large portion of Adult Swim's viewers, from what I hear. A lot of anime, I don't care for so much, but this show was pretty dang good, especially the Ed/Ein episode.

(a German tongue twister about "Rhubarb Barbara." It puts "Betty bought a bit of butter" to a crying shame.)

We I did promise you all some documentaries. The Pakistani McDonald's commercial just made me think of the perfect one.

It is a short documentary by VICE on the city of Karachi. A great documentary that gives you a small glimpse at Pakistan's biggest city and some of the palyers in it. You get to meet the Mob Bos (Karachi's most wanted man), the politician representing Karachi, the inept cop, some junkies, and a hired assassin.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4: WARNING: this shows the junkies shooting up. I personally am squeamish at the sight of needles so I warn anyone else who shares my phobia.

Part 5: (my fav part, interview with an assasin!!!)

PostSubject: Re: Journey into Youtube   Sat 04 Aug 2012, 12:20 pm

So the other day in the Chatbox V came up with a fun nickname for me. He started calling me Odysseus. Odysseus is actually my favorite greek myth hero. So I promised I would locate and post the movie The Odyssey.

What can I say about the Odyssey? It's one of the greatest epics ever. It is widely acclaimed along with The Illiad as being the first works of western literature. If you are familiar with the movie Troy or even with the Illiad as a book, then you probably all ready know that this is the story of what happens to one of The Illiads great heroes. This particular movie was a made-for-TV movie from the Sci Fi channel in the 90s. It is pretty much dead accurate to the book. It even gives the viewer a nice little taste of The End of the Illiad with the sack of Troy.

What is it the makes Odysseus the greatest of all greek myth heroes? I believe Odysseus is the greatest for a pretty simple reason. Heroes like Hercules, Theseus, and Perseus all have divine parentage (namely they are sons of Zeus.) Even Achilles whom was friends with Odysseus in the Illiad is half-god, the son of a minor river goddess Thetis. Odysseus is as far as I know the only100% fully mortal hero. He doesn't have any powers, he doesn't have any super strength, and besides Athena he pretty much has to compete against the will of the gods. Add in the fact that Odysseus has a pretty babe-a-licious wife who is desperately trying to hold off a pack of suitors until he can return and we have a recipe for one of the greatest Greek Dramas ever created.

I present to you

The Odyssey

(Where shit gets interesting since he gets into the DarkWorld)

(Relevant to that: You know what? Just go to 1:46:16 like I know you want to. (If this is your first time seeing this, don't!))

Well to breathe some new life into this thread I found another epic movie. This movie coems from the 90s so it is almsot certainly copyrighted and I urge you all to view it before it is inevitablly removed.

I guess this is kind of a fantasy movie despite the lack of real magic. Magic is part of this movie, however as part of the plot you will discover that the supposed magic is just some bullshit. One of the unique things about 13th Warrior is that the main character is a muslim (obviously this was made before 9/11.) Boiled down without giving away too much, the plot is a Muslim dude played by Antonio Banderas is pretty much given a crappy "ambassadorship" to put him into exile after he's caught screwing some guys' wife. As ambassador to hostile lands he ends up running into a group of vikings. While kicking it with the vikings a message coems the a magical/demonic force is overrunning a far distant north land. An oracle names 13 warriors, most of whom will die, to go fight this unnamed evil. Naturally the 13th warrior is the muslim guy. From there they go off and fight this evil horde of badasses and discover the truth about the Unnamed Evil, and presumably defeat it.

For further interest this is a movie made from a book by Michael Crichton called Eaters of the Dead. Micheal Crichton is the author of other great books that became hit movies such as Congo, Sphere, and of course Jurassic Park.

You can find a lot of otherwise copyrighted stuff on YouTube. It's no surprise it's there and it'll probably be around for a while if it hasn't been removed already, or on upload.

A cult classic British sci-fi from the late 70's, the special effects and the Season 2 costumes have things left to be desired, but there is some really strong acting and writing that went into it, given the whole first season was written by the creator I'm not too surprised by that.

I really enjoy it, and I hope that others enjoy it.

Whoops, a double post about the same show, oh well.

My own upload, I find it rather relevant to the arrogant Sons of B's on the Sporum, figured it's worth sharing with intelligent people here.
