It's much better than this other person; saying that bronies are basically men that feel the need to rebel because they would rather play with girl toys over boys'.

I think this article is rather fair, no bias on either side. And perhaps for some people, that paragraph you mentioned is right.

Not for me though. The show's just awesome.

I read this earlier. I love this guy.

And yea, a lot better explanation than the "We're all rebel man-children" explanation. And really, the world is might stressful. Ponies are a fine escape.

But really, keep in mind that this study is ongoing (doing the followup survey now) and that wasn't a full professional article like they'd publish in a professional psychology journal. So the "whys" and all of that aren't really included. Just "We found this"es.

Yeah, just spreading the word over here. I don't watch ponies because it's an escape. Maybe I do unconsciously, who knows. I simply watch it because it just so happens to be something I enjoy, and out of the norm of what I normally enjoy too. I usually like to watch dark themes and horror movies, and her comes by My Little Pony...
I'm strange.

But yes, I will keep that in mind. I really look forward to the conclusion of his studies. If he's anything like I think he is, it ought to be good.

Mmhmm.

Well, as I also read on their second survey page this is a kind of study they'll be coming back to regularly to track the "evolution" of the culture or to iron out anything from the last study.

http://www.bronystudy.com/

It's a good 14 pages long. So make sure you don't have anything going on.

And there is a brony and non-brony survey too.

WEll. Isee that that this site has an active Brony presence. I applaud this. one can't ignore a large Sub-cutler like this. As I am one myself I am glad to see someone taking a Scientific approach to it, and not simply hating on us. And I will complete that survey at a later time...

Hey, I'm glad to be part of it, so long as it keeps the Homestuck from taking over. :)

And I'm not sitting around doing nothing with my need to write for once either.

One question, this only talks about the Americans... What about the Bronies form other countries of the world, do they not count?

What he is saying has to do with Americans, not Canadians, so it may be true for Canadians, but he gives no idea in that bit as to why Canadians may become Bronies.

Yeah, a lot of things tend to be American centred, with the idea 'if it applies to America, it applies to all Western nations'.

I like the show because it's got the right idea about what cartoons should be, vaguely educational without being boring or overbearing. Far from the majority which are purely mindless and unconstructive entertainment.

And I do get pleasure about sticking it to those who say 'it's for autistics'.

I like it 'cause of the characters. They grow and change... look at Rainbow- she's probably the easiest example. She started S1 brash and loyal, yeah, but still obsessed with her dream. S2 she gets her pride kicked in the shins and is reminded of what's important, significantly by Discord, who forces her to stop and look at what's important. Then in S3 she gets into the wonderbolts after beating someone else with all the same talent- all the same brashness- but none of the personal growth.

Hell, lets throw Flutters in the ringer on this one- she tends to be looked down on as having the most fall back from her growth, but after "putting your hoof down" you could clearly see that she was more willing to disagree, and to say "No" to her friends. See- dragonshy vs the great dragon migration. She is still easily frightened- that needs to be worked on, especially since she's scarier than half the things in the everfree, but she's much more independent(oh god. I heard that in Rudolph's voice, with the pauses to pronounce it and everything. In-De-Pen-Dent!).
