Since the mood is alive lately, I'm putting it out there. Obviously with other RPs going on I don't expect people to be willing to commit to another right away. I'd need time to come up with some potential scenarios/situations and what time frame to set it in before things can even start. And then there's catching people up on the basic lore of the era so they know what they're doing...

At some foreseeable point I think this could be great, a chance to nerd out in fun ways. But it never hurts to test the waters early to see if there's potential to be found down the line.

I'm interested in Rise of the Empire, since I've got a character concept floating around for it that I've wanted to play, but anything that's not post ROTJ would be good.

Games seem to promote chats even when only a handful are directly involved. It'd be nice if the plural 'RPs' weren't a misnomer or abstraction, too.

So, up for this. Aiming for a Force-user, awaiting a better sense of who there is to bounce off of to decide moral philosophy. Will probably riff on the Force as a web of living connections, going at least from 'cycle of revenge' down to 'sensorimotor loop'.

And then, as improbable coincidences pile up - if we're going with 'the Force has an actual, non-subjective will', - a bit of navel-gazing as to what the point of a deterministic universe is might do.

The will of the Force seems to be the frequent redistribution of power so that it meets a balance. You see this whenever there's a sith Empire that needs to be toppled, or if a new pair of Sith lord and apprentice decides that some shiny little Republic needs to be fucked with a bit.

But with the supposed eradication of the Sith in ROTJ, and if that was the will of the Force, I wonder if that meant there was a growing evil in another part of the universe - unless the actual will of the Force means to preserve itself (aka, all that it runs through, such as life) and the empire was an affront to the Force's existence.

Han and Leia then raised the Unchosen One almost immediately, so you just can't keep the underside down.

The Force is like Mario Kart: Whoever is losing gets all the blue shells.

The Force: You can't win. Or rather, the GM will always invent a complication.

Just because Palpatine was inevitably going to be defeated by the Jedi didn't mean he couldn't get his own two campaign eras. But then, back to your regularly-scheduled balance, until someone's descendants (or ancestors) present a suitably-aged crop of adventurers...

It's either that, or Palpatine was Just As Planned and 20-some years of tyranny is fair trade to reboot an ailing Republic and Jedi. (Or the Force just finds the presence of a Galactic Emperor conducive to a reasonable, balanced struggle. Balance is a term in search of a definition, unless you really like subjectivity.)

Given some thought, Rise of the Empire seems like the easiest to co-ordinate around, since Old Republic requires more side research to understand given it never hit the big screen.

The next step would be to formulate the basis for a plot, which would almost certainly depend heavily on when exactly this is going to be set. So many things changed in the last 10 years that would drastically alter things after all.

Me being me would have it something like a search for some powerful technology, but it could be interesting to see multiple goals that each character is in pursuit of, only they're competing with each other for time.

They were building the chassis for the Death Star by the end of that movie, but perhaps they still need to find a piece of technology that makes the weapon functional.

Less directly tied to canon, we could also be working to sabotage construction/design of a super star destroyer?

If we accept the EU (which, we should. :p), the Empire runs its fingers deep into all kinds of messy projects, bioweapons, super weapons, etc. So we could be stopping nearly anything. I recall there was a zombie plague, at some point. :p

I've also been ruminating on a conceptual thing where the Empire is so flagrantly propagandic it's unnerving. Like the stormtroopers are all nice, friendly peacekeepers who are never needed, the citizens love the empire, life is idyllic... Probably combine this with the former, group of rebel scum trying to figure out what exactly is going on there, and if it's something sinister, put a stop to it.

I'd be game for a Star Wars Rp. As for the whole balance of the force I'm guessing it's really just open to interpretation since in reality the reason things never stay balanced or peaceful is because that would be boring as hell for a story.

By the nature of authorship, yes. Death of the author, and the anthropic principle of fiction. It's not that we need reach consensus! (Even as I attempt to argue for what I find more amusing.)

Oh, Galaxy of Fear. Plus that time some Rakghouls got shot into the future. Plus, Clone Wars put zombies back in canon anyway... but, reinterpreting EU into canon seems like an amusing exercise. An AU with the serial numbers filed off.

Propaganda is totally a legit Space Nazi thing.

Multiple adventure fronts is an interesting thought, Sadie, to use Dungeon World parlance. Bring on the grim portents as threads get dropped...

Well, something that came off the top of my head would be the discovery of a lost Sith holocron.

You now have some who will want to learn from it, and these people may not necessarily be Sith themselves. Others will say that it should be locked away wherever, depending on the exact time its set. It's a debate that can begin well before they even get close to actually retrieving the artifact, and continue right up to the final decision with it.

A holocron would be good; and it'd have a couple very good reasons that the Empire would be all over us for being in possession of it if they found out.

Hm, I may have a potential place to start this.

17 BBY, Telos and other planets rebelling against the Empire are eventually annexed in what's known as the Kwymar Suppressions. Since it's out on the far reaches of the Empire, there's a lot more room to work around people trying to hide from Imperial forces, or making a living off shady dealings. Since it's also on a major hyperspace lane, easy way to work towards ship acquisition if no-one came prepared with one.

I think I can make my character idea work around that period.
